How to Improve the Lines of Communication with Your Real Estate Agent

Make your communications effective with your realtor.

When it comes to home buying, you will likely collaborate with your professional Realtor to explore housing opportunities and define how to narrow down a list of potential homes. It can be a laborious process, but improving your communication with your real estate agents enables their team to match you with your ideal home.

Here are a few tips to better communicate with your Realtor.

Determine What You Want
Make a list of all the house features that you need (cannot live without in a home), and those that you want (not a deal breaker if the home is missing these features). From this list, your Realtor will be better able to assess which homes you’d consider. In turn, this means you’re not wasting time by viewing properties that don’t have a third bedroom for your child!

Tell Him/Her How You Want to Be Contacted
Maybe you prefer visual communications in the form of texts or emails, or you like meeting up face-to-face to discuss your Realtor’s recent finds. Either way, be sure to tell your agent how and how often you’d like follow ups. From then on, your agent can work with your best method of communication.

Ask When You’re Not Sure
Asking questions is another way to communicate effectively with your agent. Always ask when you’re unsure during the home search, before you sign with the agent, and after you have found a home.  There should never be any surprises in a real estate transaction.  Make sure your Realtor offers all options at all times.  Your Realtor is an information provider and should never make any decisions on your behalf.  Together, you and your trusted advisor will perform an analysis so YOU can make an educated decision.

When it comes to a home buying experience, a Realtor is there to protect your best interests! Effective communication with your agent allows you to provide your position and priorities, express goals, and move forward to securing the house of your dreams.
